Respite Care Home
Caring for a family member can be rewarding, but it’s normal to feel overwhelmed at times. If you have found yourself searching for respite care, this page will guide you on what respite care is and how it can help.
A well-deserved break for you and your loved one
Caring for someone you love is one of the most meaningful things you can do, but it can be emotionally and physically demanding. Every carer deserves time to rest and recharge, and respite care services offer a welcome lifeline.
The benefits of respite care are twofold. As well as giving the carer a well-earned break, it’s also a chance for the person being cared for to experience a change of scenery and make new friends. It can be a weight off their mind knowing you are unburdened, even for a short time.
At our care homes, we understand how much trust it takes to hand over your caring responsibilities, even for a short time. Our experienced team approaches respite care with compassion and respect, so you can be assured that your loved one is in safe hands.
Where we have rooms available, we can offer respite care for a short break, or if an urgent family matter arises. Whatever your situation, Beneva Care is here to provide exceptional support whenever you need it.
“Mum came for respite care but stayed. The managers were skilled and helpful from the outset, guiding us through the (new for us) process but also giving us time and space to come to terms with the difficult decisions involved… it was the kindness of all the staff (including the cleaners, kitchen and maintenance staff as well as the lovely carers) that persuaded us that Mum could be happy staying at Woodlands. Visiting is truly unlimited and we have been able to remain involved with Mums care and take her out as much as we have wanted to. There is good contact between the home and families enhanced by the new app.”

Respite care when you need it
As a full-time carer, sometimes, a few hours to yourself can make all the difference. At other times, a longer break might be necessary, perhaps for your own health. Our respite care service is flexible, and breaks can be arranged from a minimum of one or two weeks upwards.
We also welcome short-term respite visitors who simply want to trial life in one of our four care homes in Hampshire before deciding if it is right for the long term.
We have an open-door policy for visitors, and you will always receive a warm welcome. You can remain involved in your loved one’s care as much as you wish, or simply enjoy each other’s company knowing that a professional carer is on hand. We often hear that it is a wonderful way to renew your bond, without the hassle of preparing meals and providing round-the-clock care.

Convalescent care
Recovery after a hospital stay can be slow, and sometimes it’s preferable to convalesce in a care home where there is professional care, rather than returning home immediately. A short stay in one of our care homes provides the extra support needed during this time, helping the person you care for rebuild their strength at their own pace.
Solent Cliffs Nursing Home and Beechwood House both offer expert nursing care, should you require it. We work alongside local GPs and healthcare professionals to ensure each resident receives the daily care they need, from administering medication to monitoring.
Rest assured, our caring team will do everything they can to cater to personal preferences, including a choice of fresh meals and various group or solo activities. As well as practical care, they are on hand to offer companionship and encourage gentle movement to support wellbeing.

Emergency respite care
If an emergency or illness means that you can’t carry out your regular caring duties, we welcome emergency respite residents at all of our four care homes, subject to availability. Our compassionate carers will provide the same outstanding support to you and your family member as they do our long-term residents.
Arranging temporary care in a hurry can be stressful, and we will do everything we can to support you, including explaining the funding options. We welcome you to take a tour of our homes in advance and meet our staff to ensure we are the right choice for you.
We will help you settle your loved one with minimal disruption to their routine and encourage them to bring belongings to create a familiar environment in their private room.

Talk to us about respite care today
Taking a break from caring is not a sign of failure or weakness. Constant care is both physically and mentally tiring. It’s essential to take care of yourself so you don’t burn out. A respite care break can give you the chance you need to reset and be ready to give your best once again.
Our team is always here to talk through your options, either by phone, email or in person. Whether you are planning ahead or need emergency care quickly, we can talk you through the process involved, including questions about respite care costs. We’re here to support you and your family members at all times, giving you all the welcome break you need.
If you would like to visit one of our care homes, we would be delighted to show you around and introduce you to the team. Contact one of our homes today to find out more.

Frequently asked questions about our dementia care
How do I arrange respite care?
Arranging respite care at a Beneva Care home is simple. Start by contacting the care home directly to discuss your needs. A member of the team will guide you through our care planning process and explain the funding options. Providing we have availability, respite care can be planned at very short notice.
Is respite care suitable for people with complex needs?
Beneva Care’s respite services offer the same level of support as we do for our long-term residents. We offer full residential care, dementia care and nursing care. So, if your loved one needs help with personal care, taking medication or managing health conditions, you can be sure they will receive fully personalised support. Find out more about the types of care we offer.
Can respite care turn into long-term care?
Most certainly, and that is common at Beneva Care homes. Some families use respite care as a way of trialling life in a care home before committing to a permanent move. If the person you care for enjoys their stay and wishes to remain, we would be delighted to welcome them into long-term residential care
Still have questions? Feel free to reach out to us, and one of our expert care staff will be in touch.
What Our Residents and Families Say
I would just like to thank every single member of staff that cared for my father while he was in your care.Dad had dementia and some of the things he got up to were extremely challenging for the staff but they handled it with professionalism and with humour. I can’t thank all the staff for what they did and the time they dedicated to him, from management, nursing staff, care staff cleaning or laundry staff, you are all wonderful people.

Since mum has been residing at Solent Cliffs back in Oct 2019, I have nothing but praise for all the team. (Managers, nurses, carers and staff). All are an extremely friendly hardworking team and have gone above and beyond to ensure that Mum is safe and cared for with compassion and empathy. The care that my mum has received, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic and in extremely difficult circumstances, I cannot thank the staff enough. I would, therefore, recommend Solent Cliffs to anyone who was thinking of a safe, friendly, happy, communicative environment for their loved ones.

Mum joined Cross Way House just a few weeks before covid shutdown so this experience could have been disturbing for her. However, the genuine kindness, compassion and professional care have kept hers and our spirits up. The staff have kept us up to date on mum’s welfare and made it possible for me to wave to her each morning through a window. They have kept Cross Way covid free.

My mother was in the care of Beechwood House for 3 years. During this time she was treated with kindness respect and dignity by all of the staff at Beechwood. The facilities are very good, food at an excellent standard and rooms and premises are kept clean to a high standard. Mum always enjoyed the activities and entertainment especially the singing and dancing. A lovely home to spend time in.
